Midwifery Care
It is the goal of Village Midwifery to provide compassionate care. We operate within the the Midwives Model of Care, which is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes. What we do:
Monitor the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the mother
Provide the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care
Provide continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery
Provide extended postpartum care and support through six weeks
Identify and refer women requiring obstetric attention
Prenatal Care
We encourage parents to become educated and take charge of their health. We offer personalized nutritional counseling and support. Our appointments last about an hour. During this time, we monitor the well-being of you and your baby and take the time to get to know one another, laying a foundation of trust. We see you monthly until 28 weeks, biweekly until 36 weeks, and weekly until birth.
Birth Care
We are on call for you starting 3 weeks prior to your due date. Once we arrive at your home for labor and birth, we provide continuous hands-on support and careful monitoring throughout labor and birth. We perform a full newborn exam with your new baby right next to you in bed. We stay with you after birth until both mother and baby are stable and tucked nicely into bed, which is usually around 3 hours postpartum.
Postpartum Care
The postpartum period is a very important time in the care of a woman and her newborn. We help you prepare for postpartum during your prenatal care. We encourage you to take this special time to focus on allowing your body to heal from giving birth. We provide postpartum care in your home around 24-36 hours and at 7 days. We encourage you to come see us for postpartum appointments at 3 and 6 weeks.
